Wood Cleaning

Some of Georgia’s most beautiful homes have wood siding, decks, patios, and decorations. Unfortunately, dirty wood can mar your home’s appearance.

Keep your home in terrific shape with professional wood cleaning services from Foxland Cleaning. We have the experience and equipment needed to surpass your expectations!

Our Approach To Wood Cleaning Keeps Your Home Safe

To begin with, a technician must apply copious amounts of water in order to fill the fibers of the wood. This will allow the solution to remain on the top of the wood, remove the fungal growth and loosen the dirt, instead of penetrating into the wood fibers.

Second, the technician will apply the solution. Which could be a Sodium hydroxide based solution or a 3% to 6% bleach solution mixed with surfactants. The most common is the bleach solution mixed with soap. The solution will be allowed to sit for 5 to 10 minutes.

  1. Do not allow a solution set for longer than 20 minutes.
  2. Never let the solution dry.

Either of these can two points can turn the bleach in the solution to a crystallized salt. This increases in strength causing damage to the wood and or strip away any oil-based stain on the wood. Here at Foxland Cleaning if there is a stain on the wood, we never use 6% bleach solution. Due to 6% bleach solution ability to strip the stain off of the wood that is why we use a 3% solution.

Last, the wood must be rinsed with no more than 1,000 PSI however it is preferable to rinse with 500 PSI. This is where the soft wash is not favored as soft wash only gives a maximum of 100 PSI. 100 psi is not enough to remove some fungal growths even though the solution is strong enough to kill it.

How To Avoid Cut Lines

As we were discussing in the last step in the wood cleaning technique 500 PSI is preferred over using 1,000 PSI. This is in order to reduce the number of cut lines in the wood caused by the higher pressure. However, this can also be avoided with proper gun technique. The way this works is quite simple. You want to work in three to four-foot sections going across your body. Once you reach the end of that three to four-foot section you want to quickly raise the gun. Then you can pull the gun in the opposite direction across your body. Quickly raising the gun will reduce the amount of pressure being applied to one specific point in the wood. This will reduce the probability of cut lines in the wood.
